We got to Anchorage last Friday and we've been house-hunting and learning our way around ever since. Anchorage is a lot bigger than we were expecting. With a population that is about equal to the Springfield Metro, we were expecting a similar feel... but it most definitely feels like a BIG city. One way streets, metered parking, scary abandoned buildings.... It is, however, gorgeous here. Especially in the suburb-y area where we are hoping to live! (Serious culture shock on the price of groceries (anywhere other than the commissary) and houses! wow to housing prices!)
The trip itself was amazing. The scenery is spectacular, and we saw all sorts of wildlife. Wild horses, sheep, bison, bears, elk, caribou and moose! And one night we stayed in an adorable little log cabin. I would absolutely recommend that everyone make the drive from the lower states to AK someday. It only took us 6 days to make the trip and we never drove more than 10 hours a day.
There will be a million pictures posted once we get our stuff back (I, being the dope that I am, forgot to pack the cord to transfer pics from the camera). So be prepared.
We love you guys!
